Last Blog (#10 for Week 11)...

FOR THE BLOG:

Find websites for audio designers/sound designers/ composers, etc. (game art, theatre, film, web development, interactive media, composer, whatever)

Choose the website that you find to be the most user-friendly, interactive and informational and give the class your assessment of it. What do like and why? what would you like to see? OR How would you present it differently?

REMINDER:

For the delivery of all your exercises and projects for the end of the quarter you will need to prepare the following:A course portfolio in 11” x 17” format, any visual elements to your work should go here; audio color wheel, any charts or graphs you create, artwork for CD packaging, game box covers, etc. For Game Artists: Include your game document here, but lay it out in 11 x 17 for portfolio. For IMD: include a graphic representation of your ambient audio environment. For Animation: Include storyboards. You do not need to buy a plastic portfolio for this, just bring me the 11 x 17 COLOR prints paper-clipped together. No staples.

Animation World Network is one of the best sites to use for information on animation.

http://www.awn.com/

It includes news, current events, and topics of discusion.

The site offers a variety of forums carrer search options, and news letters / publications.

I think it is a crucial site for any animator looking for any variaty of inforative topics relating to animation.

My website that i found is called Gamasutra, which is a site that not only describes upcoming video games, but allows students as well as job seeking individuals find jobs regarding video games, and animation. It also has relatively good link if you can navagate tot them that allow you to read video game magazines and other news, for example the game developer magazine.

I really like this website because it is so informative about everything that is going on in the video game world and provides people with jobs that want to be video game designers. The one thing i would change about this website is probvably simplify the navigation down, so it is easier for one to find the many different resources that are on this website. I would do this by creating navigation map at the top of every page.

I would likle to see more information on the audio design that goes into video games, however i did find links to a site through this one called Game Developer Conference, which has a good dexcription of how music and audio was done for halo 3 and heavenly sword.

Wesite links:
with a youtube of the making of the heavenly sword music... enjoy

Yea, I don't think anyone is gonna find anything better than Gamasutra for Game Art majors. >.< I didn't post before cuz I couldn't think of any sites, but after seeing Joseph post, I was like OMFG DUH!! T______T

If I find something else before class, I'll post it. I hope I don't forget to post here either. >.< Lol, I usually post early to prevent it from happening. ^__^;

If Gamasutra is the only good gaming site, it sounds like enterprising young game artists should start up a competitor site.

It's not that I think Gamasutra is the only good one, it's that I think they might be the best one. >.<

Well, hey, I just found a decent site. I mean, I've heard of this site many times before, and I knew they were into the game industry and junk (lol, as the name implies), but here's my site:

GameIndustry.biz

They're pretty big, but I never looked into their site, and thus I just now learned that they can help get you a job too. ^___________^;; Yea, I phail, I know.

This site has a lot of information on what's up with game companies by providing news and statistics. This can help you direct yourself towards which companies you want to aim for, so if you see that one company is doin' all shitty, you can try avoiding them. Hehh, I guess beggars can't be choosers, but I'm just sayin' in the event that you did have a choice. xP!!

But yea, they have a Jobs section that you can click on, and it tells you what kind of jobs are currently available, and how many in each category. For example, GameIndustry.biz currently has cited 7 job openings worldwide to be involved in something related to Audio/Music in the video game industry, and 532 job openings worldwide to be a programmer. Of course, everyone knows that programming sucks sausage, so it's not too surprising. Anyway, I'd assume that there are more job openings than the ones that this site has information on, but this could be a good starting point.

Moving on, to continue your job search, you can narrow it down to where you wanna work--what country and state. Once you click that, you'll see what jobs are being offered for that area.

GameIndustry.biz also has a Career Fair! This year it will be October 28-29 in........ London?! WTF?! God that sucks!! Meh, whatever. -___-;;

Anyway, the site had this to say about its own job fair, and it sounds quite promising, at least on paper, =P so I'll just paste it here:

"The GamesIndustry.biz Career Fair brings you face to face with leading games industry professionals and representatives of prominent colleges and universities. It's the perfect way to advance your interest in gaming professions, whether you've graduated or left school, or work in a related technology or entertainment industry. Come along and we'll show you how to get in the game."

If I had to change anything about this site to make it better, I'd.... I dunno yet. ^__^;; But if I had to say something, I'd have them base their events in the United States. xP!!

I came across a website about Video Game Audio that impressed me a lot so I have decided to use it. What stuck to me most was the fact that this studio has worked with a lot of well known companies such as Disney, Vivendi, Atari, Konami, and Activision. They also are currently involved with a project for Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment.
The website is set up in a way that even though all the information is on one page it is to the point. Each above button scrolls you down to the part of the web page that has the requested information. The most important seller in my opinion is the demo reel which is put in a download format for users to hear this studios style.
I also give credit to the website name because it is easy to remember.

I found one that helped me make my game document! It's a website by game designers for game designers. What they do is post article type things that give advice on character design, design documents, psychology of games and other stuff. It's worth a looksy.

http://www.gamedev.net/reference/list.asp?categoryid=23

that's just a section of Gamedev.net though. You can check out the whole thing too.

I checked out The Recordist: they have a pretty easy to navigate page, there was another one i wnet to but the page was too bright and the text wasnt dark enough for me to want to read anything. It looks like the Recordist may have done games like dungeon seige and other rpg games but it doesnt say for sure, but they do have the titles on their gameing audio section.
